Default Synthetic Oil change Quantity vs Quality? (read b4 u decide)

Hey guys and gals,

Just wanted to get your opinion on this topic. Oil is oil but the more I get info the more I stumble on this problem. Royal Purple, Eneos Oil, Amsoil, & Mobil1 can all be bought at your local auto store.
RP is about $38/gal, Eneos $31, Amsoil $45/gal and Mobil1 syn $25/5qts

So going over these prices and known tests for each one which would you prefer? Change your oil with cheaper Mobil1 syn (or other equivalents like Q, Valv, or Penzoil Plat) frequently 3-5k miles or to go with RP, Eneos or Amsoil oil change every 10k miles?

Why would you pick what you pick? And is frequency more important to you or quality?

Heres some facts too!

There is already a huge thread about btw, just a fyi.

If your using synthetic oil and changing it in less than 5k miles, your throwing your money away. Synthetic oil will last 10k miles easy, maybe even longer; but the oil filter probably wont.

I use Royal Purple 5W-20 (will be switching to 0W-20) every 7-8k miles

Eneos synthetic 5W30 every 8,000KM (or 6 months, since I only drive weekend now)
Stuck with factory 8,000KM (5,000Mi) because of carbon issues with the 250

Ever notice the data on synthetic oil is always on sponsored websites? We need consumer reports to test this.

I have 0w-20 fully synthetic oil in my IS and when I reach 10k and have it changed, I am having the oil tested (I already have the kit). I will post the results when I get them. I trust that 10k is acceptable because the Toyota dealership i use has printed material saying 10k is the recommendation.

I just did an oil change at the Lexus dealership over the weekend. I asked for full synthetic and paid $85. A lot I know, especially I have no idea what brand they use. Anyway, the sticker they put on my windshield said the next oil change is due in 5k miles, also on the computer is set for 5k.

The computer is set for 5K because older models come with conventional oil that needs to be changed sooner.

Oil change is around the same price at my dealer which is why Id rather spend that $85 and buy oil that I want to put in my car and DIY

I see. I'll try to do mine next time. I ordered the filters already. Never did an oil change before I better not screw up

Hey Dknight350
Yes this is true, although the Noack test was from bobtheoilguy and they sponsor Castrol. Im not sure about the youtube though but yes you do have a point. Also when you do get those results please post them Im interested to see what you find!

5k is a standard mileage.
Yes thats standard for them because they make more money that way to check up sooner (cuz they know its 10k for our cars), but it is true as well for the older models using dino oil has 5k intervals.

Wow that is cheaper, would spend about $72 if I were to buy the 1 Gal/3.75Q.
