What's the Best Police Radar Detector?
#46
So i used to have a BEL and then a passport 8500 and now just have a cheaper detector..... when you guys say your detector has saved you multiple times - was this from a laser or an x or k band? I always thought once the laser alert goes off its too late and the cop has your speed. All of the cops around here have tagged me and the laser alert goes off. I was looking into getting a more expensive detector but not sure how it would help in these instances....

Really been waiting on a post like this! After reading every single post, I have personally decided to order a V1 before I leave work today, leaving tuesday for a week in Gatlinburg with my fraternity, so driving the speed limit will be the last of my worries to say the least! Has anyone seen any better prices on V1? Im seeing them for around 400? Any ideas to help me out on where to buy one?

shifters do work!
did someone say shifters? been running escort for 4 years )
9500ix + ZR shifters
they work great at night (yes cops shoot laser all the time at night) in case anyone was wondering.

Careful in Georgia man! GSP (Georgia State Patrol) are all over I-20, I-285, and I-75 into Tennessee. They use ONLY laser. Also, speeding over 85mph in Georgia is considered "Super Speeder" which equals an extra $200 fine on top of your other fine. In other words, speed smart. Punch it through straight aways and stay in the left lane. Pass only when needed. Don't cruise over 80-82mph unless you are punching 95mph straight a ways.

I went with Redline as I got money trading in my old Escort & it is cheaper than the V1 / beltronics. that worked for me & my wallet. Each person has to make their own decision but its hard to say you can go 'wrong' with any of the top tier ones

Do you just want a competent one or do you actually want the "best" one?
Escort 9500 and Valentine V1 are competent radar detectors that provide great value, but strictly speaking they aren't the best.
The best radar detector is by far the Beltronics sti-R plus, and as expected, you have to be willing to pony up the $ for a top of the line radar detector like this. It'll run you about $1400-$1500, IIRC, whereas the Escort 9500 series/Valentine V1 are "budget" radar detectors that provide solid value for a fraction of the cost.

STi-R plus is the best choice if you live in a banned area (VA, DC, Ontario Canada), but its laser performance are not as good as other stand alone systems.
The Valentine 1 (if installed concealed) can provide all you need.
