Default Got my first speeding ticket today :(

First ticket ever in my 6 years of driving. 89 in a 65 going south on I-15 in the HOV lane. I looked it up and it looks like I'm facing a 328$ ticket. How's the whole process work and what options do I have? Feeling pretty dumb right now.

Welcome to the big boys club. My first speeding ticket was 110MPH at 2:30AM. License suspended for a month!

You can't do defensive driving because we you were 20+mph over the speed limit. You can: 1)plea not guilty and hope the officer doesn't show, 2) Ask the judge for Deferred Adjudication, you pay a fine and go on probation where. if you do not receive a another speeding ticket in X months, they drop the ticket does not go on your record. If you do get another speeding ticket, you have to pay both tickets and they both go on your record. Some states may not have Deferred Adjudication. 3) Pay the ticket, goes on your record 4) Say eff the Man and don't pay it.

My gf's brother went 20+ MPH on the freeway back in February and I told him to plead not guilty. His court date was last week, and the cop didn't show. I'm not saying this will happen all the time, but he sure got lucky. The worst that could have happened that he had to pay the fine and a point goes on his record. Live and learn. But I suggest, as with him, to get a radar detector to help when driving fast from now on.

I need to call the court to see if I can go to traffic school. Some of you are saying I can't and some of you are saying that I should. What if I plead guilty and go to court hoping he doesn't show but he does. Do I just say nevermind I plead guilty?

Correction, You CAN do DD because you were not 25+ over the limit, you lucky SOB. If you plea not guilty and the officer shows up, you're out of luck buddy, and will go to trial that day. Don't plea guilty unless you want your insurance to go up.

I was actually going 27 over but he lowered it to 24. How will the trial go? Do I need to bring or prepare anything?

Well that was nice of the officer. lol I'm not sure man, the last time I plead not guilt, the officer did not show up. My court date was one year after I received the ticket. I ended up missing the court dates and called the court house. They rescheduled the court date for another year. I assume the officer didn't show up either. When the second court date came up, I went to court. I waited and they called my name to meet with the public defender. He told me the officer did not show and it was being dismissed. They gave me my dismissal paper and I walked out like a baussss
