TermonMer, that looks really good. Can't tell by the pictures that it doesn't match; though like you were saying, you can probably tell in certain lights.

Don't know how particular the OP is about color matching, but that's pretty close.

thanks. i found a gloss white vinyl with a blue hue from my local vinyl place...made by oracal.

since i plasti-dipped all of my emblems, the old chrome grille no longer fit the "theme". it was the only chrome piece on the car...that said, the old chrome bezel stood out much more than the new slightly mismatched vinyl.

for those willing to attempt, here is the best tip i could give:

start at a top corner, then work you way down to the bottom corner on the same side. once youve completed that full edge of the grille, work your way over to the middle EVENLY (i.e. do an inch on the top, inch on the bottom, so on and so forth). once youve reached the center of the grille, stretch the S*** out of the vinyl across the other half-side, while slowly working your way over....any other strategy for covering the grille will leave you with bunched/overlapping material, and youll have to toss the piece of vinyl and start from scratch.

use the heat gun sparingly at low level. it should only be needed when working around the folds and corners.

once you are done, try to get out the bubbles with a credit card. any bubbles that wont come out should be given some heat and another pass.

Just about how long would you say it took for you to do that from start to finish?

like i said - almost 4 hours, including one failed attempt. one failed attempt is almost necessary for the avg newb...even if you arent screwing up the first attempt, you gain some talent along the way and realize you could do a better job if you started again from scratch.
