How is the IS350 so fast??
#16
Lo and behold, the road and track summary for the IS 350 -
http://www.roadandtrack.com/content/...e/02073car.pdf
0 to 60 MPH in 4.9 seconds
1/4 mile in 13.5 seconds
At the risk of sounding semi tacky, I'd like to make it known that the IS 350 is as fast in a straight line as a 1999 aston martin db7 vantage. But, oddly enough, if you were to just throw those two names out there and asked people to respond (within one second) which is faster, '99 aston martin db7 vantage or IS 350, I think most people would almost immediately say "aston martin."
Even down low (and I think most people can attest to this given how strong the low end acceleration is IF you get good traction and that ninny traction control is not interfering), the IS 350 is, what, tenths of a second slower than an '03 lamborghini gallardo -
Gallardo: .................... IS 350:
0 - 10 MPH: 0.6 s ........ 0 - 10 MPH: 0.5 s
0 - 20 MPH: 1.1 s ........ 0 - 20 MPH: 1.0 s
0 - 30 MPH: 1.8 s ........ 0 - 30 MPH: 1.9 s
0 - 40 MPH: 2.5 s ........ 0 - 40 MPH: 2.7 s
0 - 50 MPH: 3.4 s ........ 0 - 50 MPH: 3.8 s
Hell, the first gear (0 to ~36 MPH) is actually just as strong as that of a gallardo.
You're getting to 50 ".4 seconds" slower than a $200,000+ gallardo? I'll take it. Although, to be fair, .4 seconds is actually..a lot, but there are very few sports luxury sedans/coupes that can match that. bmw 335i and 135i are two that certainly can. '08 g35 6mt is close (why am i not mentioning the g37? because sadly it's sadly SLOWER than the '08 g35s. go figure). 370z can, and the '07+ HR 350zs are capable as well, but when we go into 350z/370z territory we're moving away from the "luxury sedan" segment. I mean, of course they should be able to produce those kinds of numbers, that's what they are made for in the first place, while the IS 350 is made for being a luxury sedan.
IS 350 is no slouch for sure. And the best part about it? The purpose of the IS 350 is to act as a luxury sedan first and foremost. The powerful acceleration is merely an added bonus. In terms of "bang for your buck" the IS 350 is very very hard to beat. It's a luxury sedan..that gets to 60 MPH in under 5...all for ~$20,000-$25,000 used. If you want pure speed/acceleration, then obviously there are a slew of better cars out there, BUT there are very very few cars that have the combination of powerful acceleration..AND luxury..AND reliability..AND "bargain pricing" that the IS 350 has. It's a very low maintenance luxury sports car.
But you know, I don't really blame you for wanting the IS 350 after driving it. I say go for it.

Ok actually, just to throw in some balance here and to ensure that we don't get too many IS350-owner inflated egos , the gallardo comparison being "close" up to 50 MPH ends at..just that obviously (hopefully I didn't actually need to say this ). You start going to 70 MPH, 80 MPH, quarter mile, and the disparity grows and grows (in the gallardo's favor, duh). 03 Gallardo is a low 12 second car.
But you know, it's still..nice I suppose?..to realize that you can get acceleration way down low that's nearly identical to that of a gallardo.

i drove a 250 loaner and i would NEVER buy a car like that, way too slow.
Its funny how STI and EVO owners just don't understand the luxury part. I talked to a few and they look down on me for spending more on a slower car (after simple bolt ons for the sti/evo. They keep telling me that if i had bought a STI/EVO and spent the diffrence on mods i would be running ing the 11's or something like that. I keep telling them that i enjoy my leather, vented/heated seats, Nav with ML, the looks and all these other stuff. They look at me like WTF "that don't matter".
OP just buy a IS350
I drive like a grandma but its always good to know i have 300 HP under my hood!! Its funny how a bunch of Mexicans (like me) look at me crazy when i tell them i can keep up with a GT mustang.
OP there are few NA V6 that can run in the 13's.... 370z (i want one), Some well driven 350z( i had one). then you have the boosted I6's of the BMW 335/135i (i want one also) and.... cant remember what else.
anyway's just get a IS350 and feel good that you will have my same car, new to you and with less miles (50k) and STILL i owe more than you

Just be patient and get the IS350, I see you are in love with the car, and you will regret getting the IS250. the 250 is for those who dont care about going fast, It seems that you like the acceleration. It made you make a thread about it and everything
