I noticed my right side was out the other night too. Will the dealer automatically replace both for uniformity, or just one side?

since i'm not intimately aware of how automotive HID lighting systems work, i'll direct you to something i found on howstuffworks.com (the internet is your friend):

In off-road and regular circles, HID lights are becoming popular. HID stands for "high-intensity discharge" and refers to a high-voltage transformer that sends extremely high voltage to electrodes inside the bulb. This causes an arc, which ignites a mixture of xenon gas, mercury and metal halides inside the bulb. The resulting light is brighter and whiter than the light of an ordinary lamp. Check the lights before adding them to your vehicle. Some may not be legal for use on regular roads.
so in your case, my guess is that not enough electrical power is going to the OEM HID lighting system to keep the HID bulbs "fired up". that is why bulbs will flicker and/or shut off moments after the engine starts.

my guess is that the dealer will replace only the defective side, logic being that they're not going to replace something that's working fine.

my understanding of lexus dealerships performing warranty repair work is that if they can't duplicate the problem, they won't fix it. YMMV.

1-2 years of owning my car, my left side bulb went out three times... and the dealer replaced it everytime for free. the car was still under warranty of course... my service service advisor told me if i had to bring it back again they would look more into and maybe replace the ballast.. two years later it hasn't gone out since.

Driver's side light went out again about a month ago, so I took it into the dealer. They swapped sides (bulbs) to see if it's the bulb or something else. A GS owner came in for the same prob and they did the same thing. No probs so far.

OK, so last night I noticed my driver's headlight was out. When I switch the lights on, it stays on momentarily (maybe 5 seconds), then shuts off. This is something you can repeat over and over.

If the bulb was dead, wouldn't it just flat out not work?

My car is an 06 with 63k on it, but I did buy an extended warranty. I'm not sure that the extended warranty would cover this. Any thoughts? Where's the best place to buy a replacement bulb? (I'm sure it's not the dealer)

Also, forgot to mention, there is no warning indicator that comes on the dash. Shouldn't the car alert you to the fact that a bulb is out?
