Default DIY: camera mount for is350

OK so I am doing another track day this saturday and wanted to record it. I got my idea from this website, but realized their method would be dangerous if the car rolled, and that the tech/inspection probably would not ok that.
seen here:
http://blog.makezine.com/archive/200...camcorder.html

So I figured the safest way to do it, is to mount to the back seat head rest. This way I could have support from both sides. and nothing sticking out ready to stab me in the brain.

1. go to hardware store and purchase some of that square aluminum pole like material.

2. Cut it the length of your rear head rest, leaving a little room on each side

3. drill a 1/4 in hole in the middle (or whever you want to mount the camera). run a 1/4x20 bolt thru that puppy. You want this bolt to be tight and basically almost thread itself through. I also put a lock washer on this.

4. drill out holes for your u-bolts that attach to your head rest post

5. put in on, and tighten down all bolts.

6. mount your camera.

Total parts = $14.66
Total Time = 30 min (less if i had the proper size bit)

wow that's pretty ingenious! i wonder if you can buy a passenger headrest and rip off the headrest part to use the 2 poles and fabricate some sorta bracket to hold a camcorder on top of those 2 poles. then stick the camcorder into where the headrest should go. you'll have a passenger pov tho...

Nice, clean installation. Will be interested in seeing some pics after this weekend to see how the setup works.

Make sure you use somethin soft on the U bolts so they do not scratch up the headrest thingys.

I'm wonderin if it will shake still. Have you tried mounting it outside the car?
