2002 is300 performance help
So, recently I have decided that I am going to keep my IS300, and am wanting to look into improving the performance of it. I have looked into exhausts, headers, kits, GTE swapping, and as well OBD chips and ECU tuning chips. Pretty much the whole 9 yards.
My question however, is for the first step, Im looking to keep it relatively cheap ($400 and under), and was wondering which performance option will give me the most increase in general power for my price range, AND will be relatively easy to install. I understand as well 400$ is not going to give me a 100hp boost by any means, I just would like something to get me started, and freshen up the feel of my 100% stock IS300.
Thanks.

Don't ask "What can I buy with $400", ask "What do I want my end goal to be?" Then "How can I use this $400 to get there?" The getting there could be a supporting mod or saving the money for later.
The SRT intake with the ecu chip has been dyno'd a few times and shown gains on paper. Most people see roughly +10hp on the charts. $400 isn't a lot of money to make any major power gains. With any route you take, you're probably going to net a 15-20hp increase at most.
Why not buy something that will make the driving more enjoyable for you and save up for something bigger? You could possibly get a decent exhaust or maybe that SRT intake and a cheaper exhaust. The intake and exhaust would at least make the car sound more enjoyable for you to drive. If you knew what your were doing, you could pick up a piggyback and tune the stock setup to squeeze some more potential out of the engine. Maybe buy some quality springs, sway bars, or even just some good tires to make corners grip a lot better.
The money, in all honestly, would probably be better spent on either a tune-up with plugs and wires or your timing belt and water pump if they haven't been serviced at the correct mileage. Make and keep the engine healthy and take care of it until you have enough for something better.
