Can you drift an open diff?

No, not really. the car has understeer then snap oversteer. Yes you can get the car to slide but when you do it's very unpredictable and you have almost no control at all.
If you're going to buy an IS300 get a manual. *MOST manual IS300s came with a helical LSD in the diff

That statement is false, you have to check the door jam or the differential to see if it has a LSD or not.
If you're checking the carrier, you check if it's a m98 or m85, anything else it's a open differential.
M98= Locking differential (LSD)
Auto 3.9 gear ratio
M85= Locking differential (LSD)
Manual 3.7 gear ratio
