Wierd speedometer
Hello, First I want to apologize for my bad english, i live in sweden and did just buy my first lexus (is200) a few days ago, i find it as a pretty nice and good locking car. but when i switched to summer tires my speedometer got wierd. when i start the car and drive away, the first 1000 meters the speedometer dont move, but then after a while it just start working again until i shut the car of. Then the same thing happens again. My winter tires was at 16 inches and my summer tires are at 17 inches.
Can someone help me whit this?
Thanks // confused swede

Welcome to Club Lexus, mattiswall!
It sounds like you have a faulty (ABS) wheel speed sensor. It is possible that a wheel speed sensor was damaged during the installation of your summer tires. The tires themselves have no effect on the speedometer working or not (other than the accuracy of the speedometer). It is possible that the shop that installed your summer wheels damaged one of the wheel speed sensors?
Do you have a Check Engine Light on?
If not, what you need to do is remove your wheels one by one and see if any of the wheel speed sensors look like they are damaged. I recommend either doing this yourself or taking it to a shop other than the one that swapped wheels for you and have the sensors inspected. If any of them appear damaged, replace them and see what happens. The other option of course is to take your car to a Lexus dealer and have them find the problem. However, I don't remember if there is a way to see whether or not the wheels speed sensors are functioning or not via TIS Techstream (the software the dealer uses to communicate with your car's computer). However, a good mechanic should be able to find the exact problem.
If you have a check engine light on, you need to take your car to an auto parts store and have them hook up a code reader to the car and see what code the car is reporting.
Let us know what you find out.
