Hey everyone, im new to the site and thought i might be able to get some tips and tricks. Im picking a 2001 is300 for my first car within the next couple days, the mechanics seem pretty solid, its just needs alittle tlc. The previous owner did a crappy paint job on the dash, he painted everything white and it looks cheap and tacky. I also gotta replaces a panel or two, and put a new bumpers and skits on. But thats for when i have money XD

I was thinking of using repainting either red or black. Havent decided with my color scheme yet. Any ideas on what paint would be the best? I was gonna use plastidip

I was thinking about doing that with mine too. Seems like too much work to take the dash in and out, people say you can mess up the airbag if you're not careful too so I'm going to steer clear of that.

I was thinking about taping sections off and just plastidipping it from inside my car. Give it a nice cleaner look, and protect it from further scuffs. Plasti dip is easy to wipe down and shine back up, and easy to remove. I know it'd look a lot cleaner than what it looks like now.

So I'll probably end up doing that too, atleast temporarily.

I remember seeing a tut for taking out the dash. Just cant remember if it was on here or myis... Didn't seem too hard to do.. I took the lazy way and just decided to plastidip the scuffs that were on the dash as a temp fix until I have time to haul the entire dash out.

You could vinyl wrap it instead. I did that for a while but I didn't do it good so it started to bubble under the heat in the summer so i ripped it out.

I just swapped mine out for a 01 IS 200 dash . Its not hard to do if your patient and have acess to workshop manual . My original one had the sticky black goo on it . Didn't wanna have the 'spray can' look



















The removal of airbag is not a issue at all
Just gotta get the black glovebox and the drivers side black plastic

I just used plasti dip to redo my interior trim pieces, It came out pretty well I can put some pics up later.

I was able to find a new dash on Craigslist for $100 and swapped the dash out. The whole job took about 4 hours - 2 hours out and 2 hours in - due to little issues encountered along the way.

I took the old dash and scrubbed it down with Simple Green and sandpaper to get the gunk/funk/melt off the material. The extra dash is in the garage until I either (1) sell it or (2) so a different route with it (carbon trim, plasti dip, etc).
