keep car or buy new one
Hey guys I have had my is for two years. It's a 2002 ggp auto with a custom midpipe and megan racing muffler. I have an intake as well. I have been looking for a manual is or a wrx and I'm not sure if I should keep my car and add some new wheels and lower it or search for a new car. Only thing that bothers me is that I have 160k, which is why I'm not sure if I should start fresh on a lower mileage is if I do not get a rex

With that kind of mileage, I'd move onto another vehicle. That way you can experience the fun and joy of doing mods all over again and enjoying them for years to come. It just doesn't make sense to me to put more money into this vehicle.

Mileage is a non issue with these cars. I'd be more worried about those subaru's and the ripping around everyone seems to do in them. Show me another model that has more cars with 200-300k+ miles and still running strong. They're right there with Tacoma's, 4runners, and Toyota pick ups. Most of those suby's have had engine rebuilds or swaps, and people dump them around 160k all day.
Your car has barely reached its half life as far as I'm concerned.

that's a tough call. I just traded my 03 is for a 15 is350 fsport and I miss my old bucket! one of the reasons being is that I did A LOT of work trying to find one because I specifically wanted a yellow manual; long story short, after months of tracking I found one in TX (I'm from CA) and had it shipped to me. I didn't really mod it cause during that period, I became a new father and a lot of my plans were put on hold or shot down...haha. but I was able to mod with HKS-Ti carbon fiber axel back, custom LMS cai and a short shifter and that was enough to enjoy my bucket even more! i have a lot of good times in that car...traded it in with 220k+ miles on it. it started to act its age though; driver lock actuator went out so the key fob was no good unless you manually locked/unlocked the driver door first, driver window actuator was on it's last leg (it had a hard time opening and closing in auto), and the ignition was starting to have issues. if i could, i probably would've done an eng swap, thought it was just time.
sorry for babbling, but don't make your decision based on worries of the motor just yet. there's still a lot left in your car! the 2jz is one of Toyota's best motors. the wrx is s fun ride, but the reliability won't be there like the it is on the IS. good luck!
