Default 2004 IS300 oil change question (new lexus owner)

Hello everyone,

I just bought a 2004 IS300 with 66,300 miles on the clock. The previous owner was honest and forthcoming about everything about the car but he couldn't really say when the last oil change was performed. (owner is really old and it was his sons car who has since moved out of state). He did show me a receipt for the 60k service being done at 59,200 miles which included a oil change with conventional oil. Basically the car has been driven on and off for the past 2 years (7k miles).

I checked the oil dip stick and the oil levels look fine.. right on the 2nd dot. Car is super quiet at start up and drives fine... should i be concerned? I plan to do a oil change asap on monday or even tomorrow if I can find a shop open on Sunday in Orange county. please chime in!

Thank you.

I should have been more specific with my question..

Should i be concerned that he hasn't done an oil change in the past 2 years (7k miles)? Last known oil change was at 59,200 current mileage is 66,300. I was reading on the forums that it is okay to drive up to 7,500 miles on conventional oil but only to a max period of 6 months. I am a little bit worried that this may have caused major engine damage that I am not aware of.

none at all, engine runs super quiet too, more quiet than my 2010 LS460. My wife couldn't even tell the car was on when I pulled up! lol. I checked the dip stick again and the oil looks decent.. not new but not old and it is still at the full marker. Im taking it to a local lexus indy shop first thing tomorrow morning to see what comes out.. wish me luck!

You can send an oil sample to Blackstone for oil analysis, which is easy and great for piece of mind. Or you can just change it and drive it.

I'd use regular conventional oil or high mileage synthetic blend. I wouldn't pour in full synthetic since the car probably hasn't ever had full synthetic. It could promote oil leaks. I'd also change the oil around 3k miles too.

I recommend running synthetic blend for a couple changes if you want to run full synthetic in the future. I did this with my SC300 with 128k miles. Did 4 oil changes with mobil 7500 then went Royal Purple 5w-30. No leaks whatsoever.
However, I just went from regular oil to Eneos 5w-30 on my IS300 in november because winter was coming and I just bought the car (has 87k on it). Now the front main seal leaks I should've taken my own advice

Depends where the possible leaks are ..... I always put silicon around the sump plug after a change and thread tape on the sump plug thread .
My understanding is at about 100'00klms on some 2JZ's the cam cover gaskets can leak and oil can get into the plugs and cause all sorts of dramas , so always have a good look or get on a hoist drop the undercover and have a real good eyeball every now and then between services if its really bothering you
