Default DIY: Functional Shark Fin Antenna Install w/ Pictures

I picked up this shark fin antenna off a fellow CL member, not sure what car it came off of, but it'll work fine for the IS300.

Bottom side of the shark fin antenna w/ automotive double sided tape applied.

***Note: this antenna didn't come with mounting bolts so i later drilled two new holes to my roof and the antenna, inserted two new 10mm nuts and bolts, for a snugger fit and theft deterent.***

Here's the tools you'll need for this install:

1. Wire stripper to remove 2 plastic panel bolts (unless you have a door panel popper) or regular needle nose pliers should work.
2. Flat tip screw driver
3. 10 mm ratcheting wrench or 10mm socket + ratchet
4. Automotive doubled sided tape if your antenna comes with the crappy foam type of double sided tape.
5. A clean damp rag or microfiber cloth to clean the area where you are going to attach the antenna.

First thing to do is remove these two plastic bolts that hold the center rear of the roof panel on.

Second remove the two C pillar panels, they just pop off with some effort.

Third remove the two rear roof grab handle with a 10 mm wrench or socket+ratchet. To reveal the 10 mm bolts you have to pry off the 2 caps on each handle with a flat tip screw driver.

Fourth pull down the weather stripping that's at the top of the door frame, so that the roof panel has clearance and access to the base of the antenna.

Fifth pull down the roof panel slightly to reveal the base of the antenna, remove that white cap covering the two 10mm nuts that secure the antenna to the roof. Then press down on the white clip and the antenna wire to disconnect the antenna from the harness.

Here's what the OEM antenna looks like when removed.

Lastly, thread the antenna wire connection through the original hole for the wiring, connect the wire. As for the 2nd connection, i found our car works just fine w/ that connection disconnected.

After that place the shark fin antenna on the roof for a test fit of the location you are going to stick the roof to, once you have found a desired location clean the area off with a damp rag/microfiber towel, remove the double sided tape backing and stick the antenna onto the roof.

Reinstallation of everything else is just the reverse in these steps.

If i were to redo this installation for a flusher fit of the antenna to the roof, i would dremel the base of the antenna to go with the curvature of the roof.
