Unhappy Please help (new driver)

okay so PLEASE dont make fun of me i recently bought a 2001 is300 with 130K miles on it, i took it out a couple times, and i never knew what neutral dropping was til now, well i did it about 6 -8 times this whole week and i now that i know ill never do it again, but im scared, my engine is knocking but its just the timing belt that got worn out cause of the neutral drops, but i since im not neutral dropping again, is my car still okay? is it still strong and yeah im stupid for trying to drive auto like a stick, im still a new driver so i didnt know, and how much is for a new timing belt and for it to get fixed? how is my transmission after the neutral drops? i know that neutral drops are very dangerous for autos, is my tranny still okay?

Huh?

First off, neutral dropping shouldn't affect the serpentine or timing belt.

It will affect the transmission, in fact, it is about the worst thing you can do to an automatic transmission, and, its not even cool... What kind of knocking noise? Engine, suspension, when you accelerate, when you brake - going to need a lot more information...

its like a tapping noise, but it only happens when it idles it not that loud at all, but its coming from the serpentine belt and the the belt got worn out, but when i drive it you dont hear nothing at all.

Probably normal clicking/tapping from lifters. You either reved the hell out of your engine and screwed something up, or you are just paranoid from something that was already there.

However, your transmission, could be a totally different story.

I'd worry more about the tranny than any engine problems.

let me know what you find out about that knocking, as myself and a few other IS guys from our meet had a similar knock that we only heard it wasn't anything serious to worry about.

Lucas products are temporary fixes but will damage your car more than it helps. Nothing but horror stories about lucas products into engine or transmission. Only thing i would be less scared to try from lucas would be its fuel stabilizer, and even that i wont ever use.

Serpentine belt doesn't have much to do with the shift point of your transmission, HOWEVER your WATER PUMP IS driven by your serpentine belt, and I wouldn't try to drive a car knowing my water pump isn't being driven.

How did you check your tranny fluid, dipstick? I have yet to attempt to drain/fill my tranny but if it is like any other auto tranny that i have worked with, the plug is magnetic at the end, and THAT is where you would find shavings if there are any! Your fluid is not going to automatically go from red to dark red/black from just that one incident.

I would say you probably didn't break anything in the tranny, but you probably have made some damages that COULD possibly break faster than it should. That is a lot of stress onto the gears, neutral dropping or whatever its called.

Again, could be just injectors clicking or lifters ticking.
