Every comment helps .... thank you

Mileage is high. Post up some pics. Check the paint to see if its been repainted. Try to pull the service history from the owner or from Lexus themselves.

Take it to a GOOD mechanic for an inspection (IE Lexus)

Your Is300 from 2001, that is 11 years old and the mileage is actually low at 140k, typical mileage driven each year on average is 15k which would put it at 165k but since we're close to heading into 2013 that would be more like 12 years at 180k miles. Best bet is the pay a service fee to a mechanic that specializes in Asian autos or Toyotas/lexus. A few main items to check would be : Last time the seller replaced the timing belt/water pump, front & rear brakes (&rotars), Serpentine belt and Transmission flush /fill ( this you want to see Red oil not dark brown or black) that way you know it's been changed. A few of my mechanic's recommendations were these to be sure your Is300 lasts and remains in good working order : Change Transmission fluid every 20 to 30 thousand miles on high performance Is300 auto trans(6cyl), Change oil every 3,500 miles, Change timing belt/water pump every 60k miles, Check brake pads every year or 15k miles but also can depend on how you drive, if you're a brake rider and push that pedal like crazy maybe sooner, air filter every time you change your oil, check & refill as needed all of your oils on any car older than 3 years or over 36k miles each time you change the oil /or have regular oil changes. * including the antifreeze/radiator water. Whenever you replaced your tires (2 to 3 years unless you live in Chicago or a city that has terrible pot holes and rough roads) always check your wheel alignment. Tune-up your Lexus every 30k miles and if you use the spark plugs that lasts 100k miles you can have a tune-up lasts much longer - I had that! I think the best advise is to take it to a local mechanic that works on Asian cars or Lexus/toyotas often - for all oil changes and other stuff needed. Read reviews and ask others who own Toyotas/Lexus in your zip code/area - if you take it to a dealership not only your labor but your parts will be way over priced. .happy shopping my Is300 has been Supreme!!! I own 2004/ Is300 and have 155k miles on it - I love it!!!

I would also try a pull a Car Fax. I don't know how many car forums you are apart of but usually someone on the forums has a free month of Car Fax or works at a dealer and will pull it for you. Just post up and ask or search for a thread. I know Car Fax doesn't show everything but it's another document to help make your decision.
