Key Turning Issue
Hey everyone,
Looked at a few threads regarding this issue. Wanted to get a more up to date answer for this problem i'm having.
03 IS300 - Just starting having a problem a few days ago with the key not physically cranking the first few times.
I find that if i mess around with it a bit I can eventually get the key to crank and start the car.
I only have a valet key at this point. I have a keyless entry key cut from Sewell but I do not have it programmed at the moment.
I'm able to open the doors and trunk just fine with the Valet key but it just doesn't turn in the ignition unless I mess with it a bit.
I tried to spray a bit of grease in the key hole and tap the front with a hammer and it hasn't changed.
Options:
- Replace tumbler? is that feasible?
- Replace entire ignition cylinder? I found one on rockauto for $66 with two key shells (would i need new keys cut and programmed?)
- Try another quick fix that you guys may be aware of?
Thank you for any help
-Rick

Ok your in a bad situation. First is that your ECU needs to be flashed or replaced so you can have master keys made for your car, the valet key cannot program a master key. 2nd you need a new ignition, and it needs to turn so you can replace it so stop messing with it. The key you bought from sewell can only be programed if you have your ecu flashed by a locksmith, or take your car to the dealer.

Ok noticed something interesting this morning.
Tried my keyless entry key cut by Sewell...
The key is able to crank in the ignition without any resistance!
I tried it both ways and it works
Strange...so I put the valet key in again and pushed in hard while trying to crank and BAM! it worked.
LOL so weird i didn't mess with the valet key at all and it never gave me a problem until a few days ago........so i'm going to get my keyless entry key programmed at Lexus tomorrow.
