some polishing - GTE
just wanted to share a few pics of my recent diy polishing project. these pieces are off my JDM GTE motor. im not a professional polisher but i think they came out nice. i did cut some corners on the bottom or back of pieces but doesnt matter much since that will be hidden once installed.
pics are from cheapo iphone so bare with me.
a little before an after of the valve covers

a lot of sanding. i mean hours and hours of sanding. tons and tons of sanding. and when you think youre done sand some more. its like never ending sanding. like holy moly i never want to do this again sanding.
on my original set up i did the intercooler pipes real easy then did the other pieces. so when i got the new motor i figured id do it myself again. this was harder. pieces were dirty dirty with caked on stuff and the throttle body has all these little corners that are a pain in the ***.
so the way i did it may not be the same as someone else. there are diys on youtube and other people who do things differently. my way is to start with a heavy grit 80 or 100 on a orbital sander then work your up to lighter grits. 200, 300, 400 etc to 1000. in between and in the tight corners i used a dremel and whatever i could use to get into tight corners. i found a good trick was wrapping sand paper around a tooth brush handle and using that to scrub in the corners. you have to be careful not to get deep scratches because you'll have to get those out before you can shine it up. the last few steps i used a polishing wheel on a drill with the white rouge for a shine. and some mothers metal polish.
