Default Questions about purchasing a IS300

Hey everyone. My name is Julian and I have been a long time reader of these forums and have now signed up now that I am looking to purchase a IS. I was wondering what should I look for when purchasing a IS300? Is there any model specific problems with these cars? I looked at a 2001 IS300 today that had about 95,000 miles. The engine started up right away and idled at 1000rpm. The interior was clean and it seemed like all the electronics were working fine. Some things that worried me were the fact that the bolt holding down the seat rails where rusted which I found odd. The body I would rate a 7/10. The rear bumper has body work on it and the right quarter has slight rust building up in the inner lip. Also, the headlights are kinda fogged up. They are asking $8000. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

(Note): Im not sure but I had tried to post earlier and it didn't show up on the forums. I apologize if I did something wrong. If the other post shows up I ask that you delete that post and leave this one up. Thanks!

Welcome, personally i would stay away from the car you are looking at, the damage you describe and rust can only be caused by a accident. The IS300 is a great car, only really big problem is the CD changer jams, and you also might see cars in northern states like yours have the rear calipers rust and give out, because of the salt they use on the roads. Only other thing is make sure routine maintence is done, at 90k the timing belt needs to be changed. Most IS300's are the same but try to get a 2002 and newer there are many upgrades after the first year. Good luck!

I'm gonna take your advice and stray away from it. There are a couple other is300 for sale around me that look cleaner but also cost a little more but it seems worth it. Let's see how this weekend goes
