Turboing my new IS300 Questions
Hey guys I see that the is300 performance page is very skimpy so i will post in here and just so everyone know I did search! Now I just got myself a IS300 and my previous car was a turbo SC300. From my understanding the engines are identical other then the vvti and multiple electronic sensors! What about the trans is it still the w58 and can it still hold around 450 -500HP with a clutch upgrade? So here is a parts list of what I have already and maybe somebody can help me out as some questions I looked up were very skimp on answers!
My power goals are modest maybe 350-400whp.
Car:
03 IS300 w/ 70K and 5 Speed, Custom 3" exhaust, and Hypercoil Springs
Turbo kit:
Holset HX35 Turbo
Custom Front mount with piping
2JZ-GTE fully braced polished stainless steel manifold
46mm wastegate
Evo 9 Metal BOV
4" polished stainless intake tube with nipples for IAC and blowby
3" v-band clamp kit
3" v-Band polished stainless steel down pipe with 02 bungs
Teflon core, stainless braid oil supply line, high temp drain lines & flanges/
gaskets
Turbo oil return plate for oil pan
Polished stainless steel wastegate dump tube
Manual Boost controller
HKS Turbo Timer
Prosport Boost and Wideband.
Fuel Pressure Regulator
650cc injectors
Questions:
Do I need to change the headgasket with this engine to support my power goal? On my sc300 I did not and it ran fine and was tuned at 420whp.
Do I need to run a stand alone for fuel and timing as something with vvti will try to change settings to stock if I run a ecu chip? What would you recommend if I need a stand alone?
Let me know what else I need?

I'd say change the HG while your at it, safer, most people change it when they boost above around 10psi or so.
I'd think a piggyback should be okay, but with the higher power goal, you'd have more options with a standalone. You can look into getting a Haltech, or a Greddy Ultimate to control both fuel and ignition.
Do you have a GTE longblock, or just the GTE head?
