I just purchased a 05 IS 300 Sportcross a couple weeks ago and planned on getting my calipers red with black decals but first tint my windows black this weekend. (Cant wait!)
Does anyone know if the red would look better if powder coated? Would it be possible to get my calipers powder coated and add the decals then paint them over with a clear coat high temp paint? What do you guys think?

I powdercoated my calipers in red. I went an extra mile on how I did my calipers. You dont have too, but it gives it a smoother look

Nice, good to know man! I have been researching where to get my calipers powder coated and found a couple places. Where did you get yours done and does it have a metallic kind of look or matte? Do you have any pics i can see? Sorry for so many questions! I'm excited to get this done on my SX.
Nope, just a solid glossy red. they only charged me around $135 for all 6 pieces. Front calipers/sleeve and rear calipers and sandblasting. They had the color in stock. But if I wanted to go with something that wasnt in stock, Im sure it would have cost me more. I wanted red anyways
You dont need to take apart your front calipers. there isnt anything that will be damage, or cause anything else to get damaged. But you do need to disassemble the gaskets and pistons. Remove all grease and fittings. Then your good to go.
Just a note, Powdercoat will show texture if you dont sand

Wow, very clean on your calipers. Looks real nice. Now by looking at your calipers i really want to get that done.
I have a dilemma..I went J&D Powder Coating in Tacoma and they charge $225 for everything, cleaning, sandblasting and for fire red. My problem is.....I don't have the tools to disassembled my calipers and is it true you have to completely drain your brake fluid to remove the calipers? So in order to powder coat my calipers i would need to pay someone to remove my calipers and drain the fluid then put it back on and re-fill...On top of the $225 for powdercoating I would need to cough up another couple hundred for someone removing my caliper and drain/refill fluid...Does that seem right? I really want to go the powder coat route but damn...its going to cost me over $400...

^^^That sounds about righYou have to completely gut/drain it. Then rebuild it back to a caliper that is functional. There is down time. Probably 3 days to powdercoat. I was quoted $600, before I found this shop in Puyallup, WA.
You do not need to undo the star head bolts. Located behind the front calipers. There is no fluid in there
If your talking about doing your SportX. Here is a link to disassemble my calipers, when I did my search
Look at post #4 for a PDF link
