Default what size tire to run on '03 is300 with an oem 17x8 +40 2nd gen gs wheel?

what up people-

friends '03 IS300 wheels are f'd up, ive got a set of 17x8 +50 2nd gen GS wheels but no tires so they'll need to know what to buy for proper fitment without rubbing issues.. the IS is on stock suspension... i know the gs's stock tire size for this wheel is 235/45/17 for the 17x8 and the IS's oem wheel setup is 17x7 +50 with a 215/45/17....... ive read here and there that a 235 would be too wide for the is with the 17x8 oem gs wheel but i dunno if thats just for those of you with lowered cars or what.. dont want this kid having to worry about any rubbing issues at all, but also dont want the tire looking disproportionate/too thin... only got time to deal with the problem and buy tires once.

on top of the issue of a couple of their wheels being bent, they're also having a problem with premature outer tire wear on the driver side front.. assuming this is a camber/toe/alignment issue or could it just be because the wheels out of balance?

thanks in advance

Its an alignment issue, unless the wear is in one particular part of the tire.

Im sure 235/45 wont rub.
235/40 should be good without any worries, on stock suspension.

so you're saying the 235/45/17 that would normally be used on the gs 17x8 wheel when using on a 2gs would be within spec for the IS and wouldnt cause a rubbing issue while turning?

i was thinking 225/45/17 but again, i dont know much about the IS.

****edit to original info: the 17x8 gs wheels i have are +50 not +40.

Now that you mentioned its +50. You will be good with 235/45, but its going to be a big sidewall.
What is your friend going to do with his IS? DD, or eventually lower it?

Im getting 225/45 on my 17x7 stockies. And Im not lowered. I think the stockies are +45 on the IS
