replacing battery in key & keyless entry
Hello. I just bought a 2002 is300 sportcross. i am downsizing from a ford excursion (i know, i know). any way, my key does not work and i cannot get the case off w/ a screwdriver, i tried many types (very small ones)!
could someone give me an idea as to what to do next?
and I dont have a manual so i cant look up how to work the keyless entry.
thank you from a new lexus lover !

you should be able to open and start your car w/ key only
when you open your door using your key, it will automatically turn off the alarm, and you should be able to start the car by turning the key in the ignition
as for replacing the battery, if you cannot open it by using small jeweler's screwdrivers, then you maybe out of luck
probably need to buy a new key fob from the dealer or someone that authorized to sell them
good luck..!

Mary,
Register your car on the Lexus website and they'll send you a free owners manual.
On your key, the easiest answer for you... Just go into a Radio Shack and tell them you want to test (and likely replace) the battery in your key. They'll have the little screwdrivers and will help you open it up - just buy the battery there and they'll help put it in.

Thanks Mary, while I bought a lot of the Porsche, it's my wifes car... I only drive it rarely The car picture in my signature is actually one of my Lexus.

Really ? Wow, I looked at it, and when I saw Porsche under the heading, I just assumed. Well it is a beautiful Lexus. By the way, I guess I got an "unusual" sales person at Radio Shack. He put his hands up in the air and said "Nope, don't open it, take it right to the dealer." I think he thought it was going to blow up in his face, he actually stepped back when I held it up!!! I tried a few more times, but quickly found out he was not going to budge. I will try another store today ! ! Thanks again. Mary
