Cool thinking about buying.

hey everyone,

came across an ad [looking for a 'new' lexus] ..

2001 IS300 Sport Premium
216,000 km.. which i called bout, and the sales person said that the majority was highway mileage, it was really well maintained without even a stone chip in the fender.
it's black w/tint. the 17" gunmetal rims, heated seats, HID, leather, sunroof, sport pkg ect.
.. for $13,999 CAD
however, the stone chip isn't what i'm worried about.. it's the mileage.. and the effects of it all. He said that they would be able to run a 'Carfax' .. [history of the vehicle according to the VIN].. for my curiosity.
I just dont want to get the car, then have things start to go on it.. resulting in more cash outlay.
whats the history on high mileage lexi? any experiences with higher mileage IS300's, or any related car?..whats the word on the street?
so, good deal or no.. keep in mind that i'd be negotiating that price.
what do you all think?

thanks,

- matt.

ummm ... well, im not entirely sure what the market for used imports is in TO ... but if that car w. that pkg were @ that price in BC [even w. all those kms] i would be questioning how legit everything is.

my advice: (1) get the carfax report, (2) call whoever u guys have to provincial insurrance and make sure its not stolen/imported from the US wrong, and (3) tell buddy that u want a lexus dealer to give it the go over ... i paid like $100 or so to a lexus dealer here to have them throughly go over my car b4 i bought it

yea, the guy i spoke to at the dealership said that there's a lexus dealer about 10 mins away from them, and i can go there to get it checked out.. everything seems legit, apperantly it's off lease from a guy that works downtown T.O.. hence hwy kms.. and they offered a carfax.

216,000km = 134,215.90909090918miles...

That's alot, but not really a serious problem in Toyota/Lexus. I would ask if he has any maintenance records (especially for 60k 90k and 120k services).

And aside from taking it to Lexus, you yourself can look over the car, just to make sure there is no visible damages to the body, engine, or suspension. (i.e. curbed/small dented wheels might suggest he hit something).

Get the carfax report. Go over it yourself. Check the VIN on multiple spots of the car (Lexus put VIN on most body parts).

Other than that, good luck, and hope you join us Lexus Enthusiasts soon.
