Default Dash swap

I know this thread is dead but I had to share

Just replaced my gooey black '02 Dash / Instrument panel assembly with a '01 IS 200 Inst panel *** and cluster finish panel . So the goldy copper bits match my stock steering wheel and looks factory without a spraycan paint job .

Donor IS 200 Instrument assembly

Its a bit moar involved than this exploded view

$50AU for assembly plus $20AU for cluster finish panel . Money well spent

My IS 300 Dash . The gray is where I have already rubbed back the substandard paint / gooey crap

Glovebox , console a/c and stereo cluster and combo meter ( gauges ) removed

After a 2 dozen or so bolts , nuts and screws the substandard instrument assembly is out

Thank gawd for this product . The foam removed all of the black goo that was on my Curtain airbag trims . Recommended to get all dark stains off tan / crème interior bits and carpets as well

Okay '01 IS 200 replacement is in . Now to put all of the bits back to where they were

Okay im done .Took about 3 hours to do from start to finish . Now to get the IS 200 donor cars console , glovebox , front airbag and lower finish panel / drivers side trim , cause its all black in color and will look factory . Very pleased with my efforts

Thanks for sharing. I really want to get my hands on a dash, mine has been gummy for about 5 years now. I've just lived with it. Good to know I have a guide If I can get my grubby mits on one. Also awesome to hear it was only 3 hours of work! For a dash tear down that's not too daunting.

Thanks for your reply .

There are a couple of nuts / screws that are a little awkward to get to that need to come out as well . These aren't shown on that exploded view I posted .

I had this issue with the airbag cover only on my 02.

After Lexus wasn't willing to work with me, I refinished it myself. The process was pretty easy. I used 3M adhesive remover to strip the old finish, and then painted it with SEM trim black.

The full dash removal looks like a much bigger project. For those of you that only have issues with the airbag, the entire project (removal, stripping, painting, and reinstall) took about 2 hours.

I only did it cause the whole dash facia , vents and console were gooey and I wasn't gonna put up with it either
Its really not that difficult to do once you know where the nuts and screws are
Also pre 2002 Lexus's dash were not painted with the crap black coating . Looks better in my opinion

Default Nail Polish remover

Nail polish remover worked okay for me, it became very smooth and lighter black and the thick inches of grime was pretty much eliminated, for the most part. I only did one section, it seems to melt it right off.
