I just got a black 03 IS300. I was wondering if there are any cheap modifications I can make to the car to increase its performace in terms of horsepower. Please list the upgrade and the estimated increase in horsepower.

seriously, for the is300, unless you spend some decent money, i don't think you can get any noticeable power out of it. just my 2 cents

What about that intake from Swift Racing? Also this is really random but I have noticed that when I shift from 1st to 2nd without having it in nutral for a second it sounds like the gear drops in the rear of the car. It doesnt sound nasty but it makes a really deep clunk sound.

you have the 5 speed right? that's "normal" in a sense that a lot of people have it, including me, but it shouldn't be a problem. but yes, if you double cluth in neutral and rev up to match rpm, there is no cluck sound. so if you ask me, is that perfect? nop, something is not 100% right. but my car has no problems before i sold it

the intake will probably help you with some horses. but me persnoally i never feel power gain from intake or exhaust

You aren't going to see any large horsepower gains if you go the "cheap" route. Turbo East has a nice sport turbo kit that is relatively inexpensive (as far as turbos for the IS go). That's what I would recommend.

www.turboeast.com

It's the S1 kit.

if you want the cheap way out I can be of some assistance:

JoeZ intake -- $100 (www.is300.net)
Exhaust -- $200 used (check the forsale forums)
Teck or GroundFusion (grounding kit)-- $70-80
HKS SuperAFR-- $150 (www.turboeast.com)
Toyomoto Headers/Ypipe-- $200 used (www.turboeast.com)

look into these m0ds.

even with those mods you wont see significant gains. Like everyone else said, if you want numbers, youre going to have to put down a nice chunk of change. If you get desperate and really want some added hp without burning a hole in your wallet, get NOS. I wouldnt personally recommend it because if you dont know what youre doing, you engine will go BOOM. Your choice.
