Default Topping out

I was reading some of the post on the 5spd manuals, about the thump and the hesitant accelration. but my question is and this might sound like a stupid question but on my way home from my girlfriends house @ 12:00 and I was heading down a nice straight road and i decided to see where the speed govener kicked in . i romped on the gas and before i knew it i was hitting about 140 mhp and just about to hit redline. is this right, my car is bone stock i dont have the toyota LSD or anything, so i was wondering is the tranny that close ratioed, and what can i do increase my velocity before i redline?????

stupid question

P.S. real LLLAATTEEERR in the future i might consider SC/TC but what can i do for NA applications.

well that's the speed limit of the is300, so unless you get new tranny or gear, i am not sure if you can change the top speed.

the official top speed is about 145 to 149mph

i was wondering what do the guys that make the big hp do. i am sure that they heavily modified their trannies to handle it all that power but i was just wondering what they did.

thanx

Taks, valve body upgrades, torque or stall converters, and changing differential ratios all help, but remeber that the heavily modified cars have a different redline due to changes in internal engine components. that makes the BIGGEST difference

Rominl,
Actually, my point was more directed at the "how do the big hp guys do it?" portion of the question. I was referring to building the transmission as a foundation for accepting more power and generating higher terminal velocities =)

AHHH thanxs for the enlightenment it sounds very labor intensive. well i guess thats the price you you pay for having those extra power at a moments notice.
