Default IS 300 engine question?

Hello everyone. I recently purchased a 2001 IS 300 for my son. And I was wondering if the engine in the car is the same as the engine that was supplied in the Toyota Supra except perhaps for the updated valve timing and fuel injection system? Thanks...

The supra came with the 2JZ-GTE engine (T is for Turbo), The IS300 has a 2JZ-GE. The block is very similar, but our engine has a slightly different head, cams, and internals. Our ingine also has the VVT-i on the cam.

The 2JZ-GE is the same engine as the normally aspirated Supra, except for the things mentioned above. The rods on the IS300's 2JZ-GE are also a little weaker than its Supra and GS300 counterparts (they're not as thick). I believe that the piston ring landings are also weaker in the IS300's version of the 2JZ-GE engine.

Thank you gentlemen. I have a much better understanding of the engine now.

PICTORIAL DIFFERENCES

Supra N/A 1993-1997 2JZ-GE
notice the distributor

Supra/NA in 1998 had the exact same 2JZ-GE VVT-I that we have on IS300's

Supra TT 93-98 2JZ-GTE

IS300 2JZ-GE VVT-I

Marc, good post, but are you sure about the above? I've seen the rods from an IS300 and they're even different than ones from a GS300 (not as thick). I suspect that the 1998 2JZ-GE with VVTi also has stronger internals than the current IS300 version.

possible......I dont think anyone knows for sure, would have to research Supraforums to see if 1998 NA-T's might have discovered any differences

not true...the IS300's motor is signifigantly different

the Sc300's 2JZ-GE is also the same as the Supra 93-97 N./A

*distributor
* non drive by wire
* non vvti-i
* rods/pistons slightly bigger/stronger then IS300 counterpart
