Default Wider tires on the rear

Hello,
I own a 2004 is 2000 manual, with standard tires/rims 215/45 R17
I would like to install wider tires on the back, both for looks and better grip in the back.
What size can i use in the back, with the standard 17 inch alloys?
Thank you

you can go as wide as like 234 or 245, i mean it would bow out off the rim like a sob but up to you.

well i think our rim is a 17x8 which you could change to like a 225 all the way around which would improve stability and traction. It's all about what YOU want i did a staggered fitment on some 18x8 rims i had a 255 on the rear but the tire bowed over and I rolled my fenders to prevent rubbing. remember modifications are never simple. ever.

I have 225 in the rear at my stock 17x7,5" rims. On my Sport Cross they are only 17x7" in the front. Thought all IS was like this in the front I drive with 215.

All IS300's have 17x7 all around, except the SportCross, which has a 17x7.5 in the rear...

235/45-17 fits ok on the stock wheels, any wider and its too much...

iirc they came with 215 series tires,... you can easily run a 225 and or even better a 225 up front and a 235 out back ... BESTEST... ( using OEM parts.).. running 235 on a larger sportcross rear wqheel....
