Default Oil Change Question

Hello,
How many quarts do I need for the hybrid? And what's a good filter to use?

Thanks

5 Quarts are necessary of 5w-30 (originally recommended by Lexus is '06) or 0w-20 (current recommendation). The OEM filter is good, but here are multiple part numbers:

Toyota/Lexus 90915-YZZG1
K&N HP-1002
Mobil 1 Model M1102
Purolator L10241 or PureOne PL10241
Bosch 3330

Also, you'll want the oil drain plug gasket #90430-12031 (Lexus) or #904-3012028 or 3012031 (Toyota)

I have also found that WIX oil filters are very high quality. as for oil 0-20 is what recommended.

My Dealer I use for parts' fiche came up with 90915-YZZD1, but I've heard that's the same as the 90915-YZZG1 mentioned above.

In addition to our Rx400h, we own a 92 SC400 4.0 and my 95 Tacoma 3.4

I made my life simple and made things better on the engines by using the SC400 filter , the 90915-YZZD3, on all 3 of these cars. The D3"s diameter is exactly the same as the D1, but it's longer so therefore the filter element is bigger. I've been using it on my Tacoma for about 8 years.

I have a 90915-YZZD3 in my RX now and all is good. I just buy a few of these from auto nation gulf toyota's site (they're in Houston) every time I need parts. They cost a whopping $4.21

if you plan to use an aftermarket filter, be sure the bypass valve is spec'd similar to the OEM which is 14-15psi

Default 05-30 weight Mobile 1 said service tech at my dealer

Told my Lexus dealer I wanted Toyota's synthetic oil instead of regular when they fixed my oil leak from an over tightened oil drain plug. The service tech said Toyota doesn't make an oil for my RX400h. Said it required 05-30 wt from Mobile1. That's what they used today. Run Mobile1 in my other 2 old vehicles and Toyota's syn in wife's 2012 Prius. Also asked how much for the 120,000 mile service. Said $1680.00. Yikes! My local shop I have used for 15 years will get to do the work methinks. Thoughts.

0-20 weight is what is recommended on the RX400h, even on the oil cap. That dealer is crazy. Apparently they don't read their service documentation from Toyota/Lexus.

Not on mine thomas1.

I have a 2007 RX400h. In my owners manual, section 6-1 Specifications, Maintenance Data, Page 406, it clearly states 5W30 is the "Recommended oil viscosity. However, in the "Do it yourself" maintenance manual on Page 320 it does say to use 5W20 or 0W20.

I just went outside to double-check my oil filler cap and it says "USE 5W30".

I have and will continue to use Mobil1 5W30.

I have Zero faith in the Lexus dealer as to why I will post more after Monday if I don't get the on-line advertised 60 day or 2000 mile warranty with a letter of apology from the general sales manager. But for now I have Mobile 1 5-30w in my 2008 RX400h. Love this vehicle!

I wish I could find it but Toyota made a major change in oil weights a few years back to cover the new standards in mileage. I should do a search, however logically thinking mine says 0-20 and it is a 2008 the last year of production on the RX400h and has exactly the same engine as yours. I use Mobil 1 0-20 and have no issues even in my summer time which reaches 110 degrees in Sacramento.

Here is the forum on it.

You are perfectly safe using the oil 5-30, but for best fuel economy 0-20 is recommended.

Default 5-30 wt or 0-20 wt

Thanks so for now after paying the dealer $59.54 for Mobile 1-5-30wt oil and a new filter I'll put 0-20wt in at next change in about 10k miles or when oil starts to look dirty.
