Default Rx400 H trans fluid change quantity question

Quick question from a NOOB

gonna change trans fluid on 2007 rx400h...2nd owner

Other threads got cluttered with off topic stuff
N
Was gonna use WS fluid since that's what's in there already (80k miles)

no filter correct!???on this model

was gonna do a drain and filld ...fill till the fill
port over flows?(read this somewhere)....top of tranny so gonna have to pump it in

how does topping till over flow effect the "standpipe" over flow tube when temp of fluid gets hot

Anything else I should now. Besides making sure I can open fill port
Thx for your help

I'd assume as with any drain and fill procedure, you only put in what you take out. Measure what you take out, and only put that amount back in, provided it's full before you do it. Never over fill a transmission.

Pretty much fill till overflow, about 4 quarts. And yes WS only.... I have done 5 changes with no issues by following drain and fill.
here is my thread with pictures

My apologies. I didn't realize the CVT fill procedure was different than a traditional transmission. After looking at that thread, I now understand why you said to fill it until it comes out. It's a similar procedure to changing differential fluid.

By the way just did it again, and the fluid color was brown at 196k miles. It had gone around 20k miles since last change.

Thomas: 20k and the fluid color already changed? Seems a little strange for it to wear that quickly.... ?!?

Oh, and by the way, sold the 400h and bought a 13' 450h!

Hi Nick682;
Thank you for the video of how to exchange the trans fluid. I was leary of trying to do it myself but with your help I now feel better about it.
Thanks Again

My pleasure bud. I have learned a lot from guys who've done the same thing on YouTube and threads like these. I try to make a video every time I do something different on my car. I have a few other videos for my RX400h here: https://www.youtube.com/results?sear...nick+evergates or if that link doesn't work for some reason you can search my channel on youtube: (Nick Evergates). I did one on checking the trans fluid and the rear diff and how to do an oil change and also getting condensation out of the headlights and resealing them if that ever happens. I spoke with the most experienced tech at the Lexus dealer near me for the transmission video he had been doing it for 20 years and I just reiterated everything he told me about how he does the service. The only thing he didn't say is whether or not he does a short drive around the block and then rechecks the level. That's something I do for my own piece of mind and something I've read other people recommend on these threads.
