The rear motors powers a differential and not the rear wheels directly, only one wheel would get power if it didn't have a differential back there.

Expires 10/31/16, $12 rebate on 5qts.
Thanks for that! If I can find my receipt it looks like i'll qualify for that rebate.

Yes. I get this. So, I guess my only question is. It's the same fill hole and drain hole? In other words, there is not a hole for the tranmission in the rear and another for a differential??? also I should be using a Toyota WS fluid and not a typical gear oil - which would be used for a typical differential?

Only one thing to drain and fill and the rear takes WS, Look at post 18 in this thread https://www.clublexus.com/forums/hyb...nterval-2.html

And this for instructions: http://workshop-manuals.com/lexus/rx...ons/page_3541/

(which were also pasted on the first page of this current thread)

So, check when the oil was last changed on your new to you vehicle.
You can reset the maintenance reminder light yourself. Just do a search on this forum. Where in VA are you located?

Thank you to all PPs who responded. I didn't receive a notification that there were responses - must have forgotten to check the box. I live in Fairfax County and Lindsay Lexus is quoting $105 with tax just for an oil change. The 2 toyota dealerships quoted approx $120 -could be because a woman called Not the first time I got a higher quote (then spouse got a lower rate). I am resolved in taking care of all this myself (my car, my headache).

Loved the idea posted by a PP of buying own oil and filter and getting a change at the toyota dealership. I also like watching DIY videos and will look into changing the filter myself at 5k miles. Any recommendations for a good place for oil change in Fairfax county (if there are any local posters) appreciated. Will continue to call around and see if I find a good fit.

You can buy the original lexus oil filter for 7.00 on EBAY, It easily goes 10k miles, why would you change it out at 5k, makes no sense. Lexus states 10k, go by their suggestions you'll be fine.

I agree. If you use Toyota filters, you're good for 10k miles. I don't use Toyota filter so I change it every 5k miles.

Default Maintenance an owner can perform

Here are several links to Youtube "How to" videos for maintenance most of us should be able to perform. The oil change may be too much for some but the engine air filter, the cabin air filter and the key fob battery replacements are very easy and save you the hefty labor charge.
