Default Checklist for buying a used RX 400h

I am planning to buy a used RX 400h from a dealer - What should I look for apart from what is listed here

http://www.dmv.org/buy-sell/used-car...eet.php#Brakes

I plan to take it to a mechanic... Somebody mentioned inverter issues?

When it comes to cars I just know how to drive no idea about what makes them run

Basically that is a good list. There is a recall on the inverter, but that can be checked out thru Lexus. Other things to look at our any fluid leaks anywhere under the hood, should be none. Drive it and the car should be quite silent, no noises from the wheels etc.

High cost items specific to the 400h include:

Transmission. Check for coolant leaks. This one stinks because it is not covered under the hybrid warranty.
Inverter. Check for coolant leaks. The recall is related to complete failure and not the same as the leak issue. Both are most likely covered under warranty.
Brake ABS module. The brakes are electrically controlled and expensive to repair so question any odd behavior. Pads can last over 100k miles so don't worry if they are original.

The above failures are rare but I have seen several people post about them on various forums. I have a new transmission in my 400h due to coolant leak.

Buying 400H, make sure:
(1) IPM replaced as there is a recall on it. Make sure they do this, see link: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums...nostic-tester/
(2) New timing belt atleast good because if the belt breaks, it's all bad for the hybrid engine, the whole thing drops to the ground
(3) Water pump, basically if this leaks it can get into your belt and hybrid engine and will mess it up and potentially cause you a new engine
(4) Headlamp water condensation, there is a recall/additional warranty on it. Basically, if the water condensation hits your lights, it will be out.

Once you buy the Lexus vehicle, you can log into this owner's site to see what has already been done to this car: https://secure.drivers.lexus.com/lex...nual-search.do

Hope this helps. Good Luck
