Default Grinding Noise when deciding between electric only and gas needed

Hi there,

Have an 06' rx400h that has a noise I wanted to check with the community on.

When accelerating or maintaining speeds below 40mph, I've been hearing this weird grinding or similar noise as the engine is not yet fully on but electric motor isn't yet off. When hard accelerating I can skip this noise by only using the engine and at low speeds skip this noise by only using battery.

This noise has certainly become more pronounced and wondered what folks think is causing this and what might be in need of repair repair.

If it helps, there apparently is a oil leak somewhere on the engine but it's not yet been dropping on floor etc.

Did you ever figure out where the noise is coming from?

Possible transmission issue. See if you can get a code read. It could be a tranny fluid change to solve. The friction may be happening at higher speed, but you won’t hear or notice it. Maybe get it to a Toyota garage for a check and possible change.
