I have to admit, those LED headlights look cool as hell. Although I have no idea how their lighting quality is compared to HID's. Our 450h is the first car we have had HID's and they are much better than the halogens we were used to. Until I saw this thread, I had no idea you could get LED headlights in cars. I know the LED fogs in ours are sure nice.

SeventyGTX, LEDs are more for looks than light.

I have had both HID's on my 2005 RX 330 and now the LED's on my 2011 RX 450h. The HID might had been a little brighter but I never like the way they worked on the highway. The would cut off to nothing at a short distance to complete darkness ( I always wanted them to reach out just a little bit farther than they did). Do not have that problem with the LED's and it town they are brighter than the lights on my 2010 Camry and not that much less than the HID's. My wife only has vision in one eye and she cannot tell the difference between the LED's and what she had with the HID's.

I've never had HID's so I can't compare; however, I have no issues with the LED's while driving.

I make sure the fog lights are on with the LEDs. Otherwise there's a bit of darkness below the headlight beam. I noticed it during the first week of driving the 450h. Once the fog lights were turned on, it wasn't much of an issue, especially when I had HIDs. But I'm back to non-OE halogen bulbs in the fog lights. Works fine for me with the LEDs.

Just out of curiosity, are LED headlights standard equipment? Or do they still come with halogens? When we ordered ours, I was surprised to find it was an option for HID's, I assumed they were standard equipment. Of all the ones I looked at online, I don't recall seeing any with LED's. Seems kind of strange to have two types of optional lights.

Only halogen headlights are standard. Both LED and HID headlights are optional.

Like VVRX said, halogen is standard. HIDs are included with the comfort package and LEDs used to be part of the luxury package early on. Now it's a $1,200 option.

Now I'm totally confused........lol. I wish the Lexus website would have been a lot clearer on options, packages and prices before we ordered ours. The HID's in ours was a $565 option with the LED fogs. I honestly thought we had the comfort package until I went out and looked at the window sticker. Its the premium package we have. I would have possibly thought about the LED's had I known about them, but $1200 is a good chunk of change. No matter, we love the one we have.

I saw no benefit in having LED headlights, other than the looks. The price difference was not worth it ($750?), especially with HIDs outshining LEDs, no pun intended.

I agree with your comparison versus HIDs, however, I have never had a problem with road illumination with my LED headlights. Getting my RX450H without the LEDs would have been a deal breaker and for me price was not a factor.
