Question Test driving 06-07 rx400h and some have more get up than others...

I have been test driving 06-07 RX 400h the past few months and have observed some are not as quick off the mark as others. one would think the same model of car should run the same but that has not been true at all. some have been very quick and easy running while others have not been as quick to 60mph and most importantly you could hear the engine very loudly ...like it was really working hard to get that speed up.

has any one else noticed this?? Seems as if all of the metallic silvers were speedy and the other colors seemed to be working hard.

i have decided to purchase an 07 that is not as "speedy" because it is fully loaded but wondering if there was anything(tips, tricks, etc.) to make it not seem to strain to get up its speed.

Thoughts anyone??? i'd appreciate it :0)

Don't know about those years, but the 08 growls if you put your foot on the pedal. As for speed, like a hotrod.
When the Gas engine and Electric motors kick in it really goes. Also the difference could be whether it is AWD or 2wd. THe AWD has another electric motor that kicks in with hard acceleration.

Awd is almost a half a second quicker to 60 mph. Could also be the gas. Premium will get you a few more HP. I have found that they run odd if they sit for a few weeks. Drive them every day and things are more consistent.

+1 on what maseace said.
Just purchase that '07, and have it repainted.
OEM paint code is 1F7

The hybrid battery is NiMH, so it loses a good amount of power if it's low. So the more charge the battery has, the faster the car moves.

^ This and the AWD comment. If the hybrid battery was low then the ICE probably had to run harder for the same acceleration. Make sure you're comparing apples to apples.

Just remember that the faster you go on the highway, the lower your MPG will be. It can get over 30 mpg at 55-60 mph, down to 26 mpg or less at 75 and up.

Default what?

my 400h has the same acceleration no matter what the battery charge. when it shows low on the meter it still has at least 40% charge, when it shows full it is only at 80%, lexus did that to keep the battery in a sweet spot for longevity. the system supplies the same power to the electric motors regardless of a high or low battery meter.
