Emergency help Needed for replacing totaled 2006 400h
Hello,
Just got off the phone with the State Farm representative. They are considering my car totaled after a accident. It took a week for them to get back to me. I have been stuck in Lubbock Texas waiting to hear back from State Farm. I am from Utah and was heading to Austin Texas for a few weeks. I am not injured. The car did not look total but I guess they know what you're talking about. I love that car and got a really good deal.
I bought it in 2009 through a whole sale auction dealer in Atlanta for $25,000 cash. It only had 30,000 miles on it.
It now only has 74,000 miles on it. Fully loaded.
They said they would give me $20,500. Or I can take $14,500 and get it repaired myself.
If I do get a replacement I would like to do something similar that I did before. I would like to buy a leased auction car at wholesale price. I would want to get an RX 450 H 2010-2013.
Does anyone know dealers in Texas that sell wholesale prices for return leases RX 450 H?
Is this my best option?
What would you do if you had the choice of keeping the 400 H and fixing it or looking for a 450 H?
I only have until Friday to decide and get something done. Thanks for your help.

State Farm should provide you a free rental car that you could drive to Austin or Utah or where ever. Is State Farm your insurance or the other guys, or is this a single car accident? In any event, I would suggest you not rush into a purchase of another car. Take your time and do it right.

Visually does not look bad at all except for front plastic bumper few cosmetic tears and scraps. the passenger side door sticks. the side airbags deployed and seat belts are useless. The wheels are badly out of align. The front drive side tire went flat. The appraiser says frame is damaged and the airbags caused most interior damage. Driver and passenger seat belts will need to be replace.
Thanks for the help

So you are saying let State Farm have my car and take the money with me to get another car? I only have 1 more week on rental but maybe able to keep for $25 a day after that. I would drive to Austin and look for replacement somewhere in the vicinity. Anyone know someone who buys and sells Auction cars at whole sale prices in Texas? This is how I have bought all my cars in the past. Thanks so much.
Thanks

if you feel that amount is not enough, and you can prove/find other cars going for more (with similar attributes, year mileage etc) you might be able to get more money out of them.
a friend of mine worked for an insurance company, and if someone showed him a comparable car, he would fork out the higher amount.
just an idea

If you have rental car coverage under your insurance policy, make use of that fully. The moment you sign something conceding to the car being totaled, the rental car coverage ends, so take your time to decide.
I decided early that my ES 300 was totaled, and my insurance company early-terminated my rental car coverage, necesitating me to buy another car in a very short time.

I would just the $20,000 and shop for another car.
There are a lot of components in the car that could be damaged that might show up later. IMO you could be dealing with headaches for time to come. You probably won't find a 450h around 20K even at wholesale so you either use the cash as downpayment and finance the rest or find another 400h.

Hello, I am a new member. As noted already, take your time. Do the research. I just bought my first hybrid 06 rx400 112K miles. Drives perfectly. Besides CarFax, I called the dealer the last service was done at and they emailed me the complete repair history. I wanted to make sure the 90K recommended service was done. Good Luck.
