Hmmm, not very helpful from their part! I was told they have a warranty on the hybrid system to 7 years or 130000miles, mines done 132000 miles now and is coming up to 8 years old (2006 model) so I'm over the warranty limit and wondered if an oil change was a good idea!

Starting to get the point where I don't want to pay "main stealer" prices anymore and there isn't any specialists within 50miles of me! So if i can drop the oil and refill for the sakes of the price of the oil I'm sure it won't hurt it! Mercedes when they released their 7g tronic autoboxes said that they would never have to have the oil changed, then as they started getting failures, changed their minds and were quick to add it to a service schedule!!

Also looking on the parts diagram there appears to be 2 drain plugs on the sump of the box! which indicates that it would be a serviceable item and wouldn't require any special technique to remove the oil! Not sure about refilling though!
I know of some audi's that apparently have a special pump system to pump the fluid back into the box via the drain bung! Not 100% sure about that though!

havent taken a look at my 450h thoroughly but on my 12 tundra and 06 tacoma the transmissions are closed systems so you would have to pump the oil back through the drain plug. might also need to get the manual to see how to reset everything also after your done. again, i havent taken a look at it yet but just throwing this out there so people dont flush their car and end up having to tow it to the dealer.

The item highlighted says strainer assembly, perhaps this is the filter then? Pretty expensive for a shaped metal box with filter-paper/gauze inside it!!

oh and for sonnyhood thats the part numbers there!

You're assuming its the same filter as a normal transmission. Part number and price is normal.

That is a GS450h CVT with parts listed as they are, cant see the filter being any different, it doesnt have to do any other job apart from catch debris and metal filings/fragments that will eventually work loose over time!

Had my transmission oil changed at a specialist lexus dealer last week, he reckons it had never been done in all the 152k miles my 450h had done and said the oil was black as apposed to a nice pinky colour! The oil is unique to lexus/toyota apparently according to the chap i spoke to to and is called ATF-WS and its only made in japan by Toyota themselves so you can only get it via dealers or specialists (so he said anyways) He didn't BS me on anything else my car was in for so inclined to believe him! Didn't cost the earth either!!!

The Toyota ATF -WS is the current auto transmission fluid from for all Toyota/Lexus cars from 2005 on wards. ATF-WS (world standard) is suppose to be a life of the car transmission fluid.

I'm just wondering how do you do a transmission drain and fill on the GS450h? Is there a separate filler hole if there is no dip stick?

Default transmission hybrid CVT

Hi There,
just had my service done for 180,000kms and requested a trans fluid change.
they said its a 5.5 hour procedure and 7 pages of instructions as per lexus guide.
And were pleading with me not to have it done?
They informed me its not transmission fluid, its some coolant linked to the hybrid drive system.
And the fluid never fades or wears out and not to replace it.
Even new gearboxes they replaced come pre-filled with fluid from Japan.
Even i pushed and said replace it anyway, they advised against it.
Whats the deal here?

Ill send this and the image above to my lexus service centre and see what they say.
It seemed like they were actually scared to replace the transmission fluid?
