Wishing for 400hp is a bit optimistic.

well said, until we hear that or how it compares to existing v8 competitors, it doesn't mean much

Actually I am not optimistic at all , & I don't buy the notion that the 4GS450h is a legitimate GS500 (to me, even a 4GS460 won't do anymore) replacement to compete against other V8 models in that segment ......

All tests I have read show both at 5.5 seconds.
The FACT is Lexus themselves in their own literature and press states/stated the GS 450h was their fastest Lexus. When the IS F debuted, Lexus then stated in literature "the GS 450h is the fastest Lexus after the IS F". Now it would be third after the LFA and IS F.

IMO they are pretty much tit for tat and pretty even from a standstill, I feel the 450h has more passing power.

I think they dont want to waste money putting the 4.6 in the GS seeing as how some new form will make its way into the LS.

They cant make the GS have a more advanced 4.6 than the LS so they are going to wait for the new LS to come out before rolling the v8 into the GS

^^ that actually kinda make sense, but we have to wait and see. Personally, I think they need to put the 5.0 V8 into the next generation LS instead of the 4.6 ......

so you think they are going with a larger displacement? The 5.5 in the S class has been reduced to a 4.6 turbo...

Im just saying smaller seems to be the trend. I guess they technically could use some form the 4.6 like the 5.0 from the ISF

yes... japanese article said better A/C performance, faster recharge, cheaper, better reliability.

Since nobody that has lions actually managed to get trunk bigger than 10cuft I think those claims about better packaging are bogus, since you probably have to cool them more than NiMH which then reduces the size.

another thing is - if they thought it was GS500, then they would call it GS500h, right? :-).
I expect it to be 5-7% faster due to small optimization and weight reductions, plus 10% more economical than before.

Both are pretty good improvements. Now another thing is if you expect something more.

As to the LS, i fully expect next gen LS to have V6 or at least LS450h version.

I actually don't expect the 4GS450h can compete with the 400+hp V8's in this segment in pure performance, that's why I don't buy it as a legitimate V8 GS500 replacement
I think a LS400h V6 would be a good idea especially overseas
