When is hybrid the right choice?
I have a 2007 gs350. I get about 16mpg and 18mpg on good weeks. I like the car, but wish I got better milage. It's not that I'm a lead foot but weekdays I drive about 5 miles to work. And on days off I drive about 15mi to and from home. I idle alot. About 30mins to an hour a week.
Would having a hybrid version be better or not for my case?

Your daily driving is similar to my wife's, who drives our GSh daily. She averages about 23, but we do use the car for longer runs on the weekends. By no means is she a lead foot, but I do tap into it when I'm driving.
If you don't need much trunk space and spend a lot of time stopped it might not be a bad choice for you.
Also keep in mind the GSh is more for power then mpg. With prices close to 350 prices it's not a bad deal.

Depends. Most avg between 22-25 MPG. Might not sound great but that is average whereas most petrol engines of this size get that on the highway and get 18-20 avg.
To me the GSh is not great for short city trips. It actually gets better MPG on the highway. This is due to it being heavy and its focus more on performance.
For driving short trips around, a Prius, HS or CT would fit the bill much better.
