I know that the highlander and RX are the same size like SUV (same base) and as a technician ive seen very good success with Yokohama Avid tires.

Bridgestone Dueler Alenzas. I've got 35,000 miles on a set and can rate them excellent. They are quiet, and offer better traction and handling than the OEM tires. They are great in snow as well as dry and wet conditions. They wear like iron. At 35,000 miles the tread depth is 9/32nds. This tire is a favorite of many of us here on the forum.

Check out your options at tirerack.com.

+1 for the Alenza according to reviews I've read elsewhere. I'm looking to buy new tires also and pretty much settled on the Alenzas. Reviews I've read are nearly unanimously positive. Second on my list is the Goodyear Fortera Triple Tred.

FWIW, I owned a set of those Goodyears and found that for the first 5,000 miles they were squirmy. They would squirm around during hard handling nearly causing my car to spin out. I think the tread blocks are not very well anchored. I wound up giving them away after 7,000 miles as I did not feel safe.

i'll go with the Bridgestone Dueler Alenzas also. The OEM Michelins lasted 40K, the Alenzas lasted 75K; I'm on my 2nd set of Alenzas now. They're quiet, great in all conditions, fantastic in snow, and wear evenly. Tirerack got the best prices.

Jfelbab - thanks for sharing your experience with the Triple Tred. That sounds pretty bad. Really leaning towards the Alenzas anyway because outstanding performance in the snow is my top priority while maintaining good year-round performance.

What about General Grabber UHP? I don't have any personal experience with them, but all the reviews are good.

BTW, you can buy Dueler Alenzas in Costco now. My local store (Salem, OR) has them. With $70 off (til'' 08/31) set of 235x55x18 was quoted at $752 installed

i want to get the Bridgestone Dueler Alenzas however lexus said the Michelin Energy MXV4 are better because of the weight displacement of the electric engine for the 400h. Has anyone heard that?

Let me guess... your Lexus dealer doesn't sell the Bridgestone Alenzas.

Hey Jim, I hear you about the dealership not wanting to sell what they won't stock.
When we bought our 400h, I asked for Nokia's, and the salesman recommended Bridgestones (not Alenzas either!)

I don't know what that means but my Lexus dealer recommended the Alenzas:

Good morning Mr. XXXX,

In reviewing our guest comments, I see you had your RX400h in our shop recently. I also noted your comment about tires for your vehicle. I am not sure what you were told, however for your vehicle we offer the Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza. This tire is specifically designed for luxury SUV’s such as yours. It offers a smooth quiet ride, along with exceptional wet handling and braking. The tire also comes with a 65,000 mile treadwear limited warranty from Bridgestone. And as you know Bridgestone is an OEM supplier for most new Lexus vehicles. We have this tire very competitively priced at $198.86 per tire plus sales tax and labor charges to install. If you have any questions or would like to schedule an appointment for tires, please feel free to give me a call.

Thank you for your business, both past and future.

Sincerely

Ed

Btw, my 2008 RX400H came with the Goodyear RS-A tires, which are terrible OEM tires. I can't wait to get rid of them. They have terrible traction, seem somewhat loud (although I haven't experienced anything else on my car) and apparently they don't last as long as some of the other OEM models experienced by fellow RX owners.

I forgot to note that on a separate visit to the dealer, they also offered the Michelin Energy MXV4 S8 for $1200.

I won't be buying my next set of tires from the dealer but just wanted to provide that price point. This is Lexus Kearny Mesa in San Diego.

Here's a good tire thread: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums...ic=62595&st=45
