Default 8,000 mile service

I got following notice from local Lexus dealer: "Our records indicate that your Lexus is now due for its 8,000 mile service. This is very important maintenance interval. The inspections our technicians perform are critical to the continuous high level of economy, safety, and reliability of your Lexus."

Does this make any sense? I had my 6 months service (with 2,700 miles) three months ago. What would they do in 8,000 mile service and has anyone got similar notice? Right now I have 4,100 miles and I guess next service should be 12 months service.

Sakke, it sounds like the letter is based on your mileage, not the service mileage intervals, albeit a little premature. Not unless they change that again

Service at 2700 miles, plus the old 5000 mile interval (still valid for tire rotation) = 7700 miles, therefore rounding up to an 8000 mile service? - heck, I can't figure it out, but it does seem odd.

The dealer just wants to make some money. I think oil change should be every year or 10,000 miles, which comes first.

I think the same. They just want to make more money. However, I feel these kind of letter weird and absurd. I have driven half of 8,000 miles (my current mileage is 4,150) so, at least their record is groundless. Letter does not give any added value for a customer.

its computer based that sends the letters automatically. Its not like there is somebody sitting behind the computer thinking that you need an oil change. it is probably still programmed with the 5,000 intervals so its probably just what ziggy said

Mine was not computer based. Someone have written the miles by ball pen to the letter. In any case, I'll drive the car for 12 months service in the end of July although I have less than 8,000 miles driven in one year.

Sakke, I see that you are located in Pa. If you live where you have to have an emissions sticker, and if you drive less than 5000 miles a year, the fees are exempt. Also if you are over 65 same thing. Check it out.
