Default how much horsepower do the GS450h really have?

http://www.roadandtrack.com/article....rticle_id=3367
In this article from Road and Track, It claims that the v6 engine produce 292 hp and the MG2 (electric motor) is rated at 197 hp.

Wouldnt this make the total horsepower 489, not 340?

The numbers seem like they have to be higher to put this 4200 lb car to 0-60 in 5.2 seconds and still keep pulling hard on the highway

you can't combine engine and electric motor that way to get total hp. the output of a 450h is 339 or 340 hp when you look at the combined hp output. the only reason why our 450h can get 0-60 in 5.2 is because of the tq from the electric motor.

storm is right, you can't just add the power together, hybrid system doesn't work that way. and it's also because of the tq of the electric motor that's why in sport mode the car works has so much "power"

I dont get this.. how would changing to sport on the suspension affect power.
If you were talking about the power button.. I dont think that makes the car any faster.. just keeps the revs up for better throttle response

sorry, i meant PWR mode. in power mode, the gas and electric engines actually work together so you do get more power and the car is a completely different beast

First of all, the horse power is not as important for acceleration as torque, and the h has a boatload of torque. How much exactly? There's an official answer, which I think is something like 340 lbs, but it's misleading because the h's torque is available right away and all the way.

All you need to know really is that this is the fastest luxury sedan when compared to non-AMG and non-M versions of German sedans. Anything that is rated at no more than 420 hp and 400 lbs of torque the GS450h can kill easily.

It is not possible to do. Don't remember what the reason is; someone tried, but it could not be done for some technical reason due to the h's unique nature.

i believe the reason is because you can't hold a certain gear because the tranny is CVT. but if i recall correctly, you could do the "pedal dance" to force the tranny to a specific gear. i'm not sure if this is correct or not, as i don't think anyone has successfully done this. someone correct me if i'm wrong.

Electric motor is rated at 197hp, but hybrid battery is rated ~50hp.
