Most Miles to the Tank? 500 is the holy grail? (edit 500 not 400)
Okay I'm a nut so I'm trying to get 400 miles out of her in one full tank. Yesterday I got my personal best 373 miles before I chickened out. The gas light came on and told me I had 25 miles left. WHen I had 0 miles left, I drove another ten miles.
I've filled her up and it seems there are at least 3 good gallons in the car when it tells me I am empty. I think I can do 400 with no issues.
What did help was 75% was highway driving. From Atlanta to Athens I got 29.3 MPG!!! I think I could have hit 30 MPG but I punched the gas a few times....
I've noticed on average I can get from 325-350 per tank. I did 400 only once and it was all highway and when I filled up I used all but 1 gallon. My 01 430 has a 19.8 gallon fuel tank.
The 450h has a 17.2 gallon fuel tank, that is actually a good difference in size.
I'm confident if I went on a trip I could get 400 miles out of a full tank.

the 450h tank is smaller huh? that's interesting. but i say you should be able to do 400 my gs350 with 19 gallon tank, when i drive very careful with say 80/20 fwy driving, i was able to get 480 miles before the gas light came on

On 80% highway @ ~80mph, I can get ~350 miles before the gas light comes on on my gs3. With 3 gallons left, 400 miles should be no problem, but I am too chicken to see where the next gas station is.
I noticed that ~90mph, mileage starts to look like city driving.
I want to install an upgraded air intake in my mom's 400h and see what happens. That got me about 3 MPG in my Legacy GT. Of course, I don't have a warranty to violate.

Who says hybrids have no benefit on the highway?
Bro has IS300
Dads got IS 250 AWD
Okay now I feel like a pinhead b/c when I got my car back from the dealer they filled it up with gas and the reading said 438.
Whats funny it didn't hit me that is 100 miles more than what I was saying until I hit 338 and I thought "what the hell"?
So I guess I am not filling my tank up to capacity when I fill up?
sfgtwsac, thanks for your post b/c it really clearly things up for me.
So 500 is the holy grail!!!
stop using your lead foot and you get respectable results

So today I drove 20 miles with the reading saying 0. I was driving on the highway driving around 75 MPH.
Went to fill up and I managed to get 16.375 gallons in. The gas pump clicked though at 15.2 gallons.
When I went in the car, the reading told me I had 384 miles. I am assuming that the reading calcuates what your MPG will be based on your previous tank (still a newb to this car) as I gunned the vehicle the last tank and got 21 MPG.
So since I've seen 438 based on a previous tank and can squeeze 20 miles on 0, thats right at 460 miles.
So far on this tank I have driven 16 miles and averaged 27 MPG. I'm going to see how far I can go!'

this reminds me of this seinfield episode where Kramer & another passenger kept on driving after the empty gas light came on.

Should be nearly 500m, was long distance trip with about
120km/h, approx. 73mph....
Calculated fuel comsumption of 7,96L per 100km, dont know
how many mpg ?!?
When i did refuel i put in 64,6L, so tank was nearly empty .

812km=504 miles
you filled up 64,6l = 17 gallons
divide those and you get 29.6 mpg
