I thought I should add a note to this thread - I had to replace the hybrid battery in my recently purchased GS450h at 88,000 miles. It sat unused for 4 months on a car sales lot due to COVID and both batteries seemed to suffer as a result. Lexus does warn about this in the manuals. I guess, as with all batteries, that long periods without usage (and the inevitable slow discharge) will kill them. I was hoping that some usage would help the hybrid battery recover but after two weeks I was still getting P0a80 codes frequently.

I have had the PA code on for 100k miles and the car still drove and ran fine, the code only indicates one or more of the cells are out of voltage.

For a traction battery to become so low it cannot start the car, assuming the 12v battery has enough juice, the dealer has a special charger to charge the traction battery. If the cells are not balanced within a certain range it could be why they replaced it. Other companies can load balance them or at least try to. Dealers only want to sell things new.

It is a 2010 so it was on me. I went with the Green Bean as it has a transferable lifetime warranty. Several months later the car is running well so no complaints now my pocketbook has recovered!

It was $2400. I found several other options that were cheaper and seriously considered replacing individual modules myself. But in the end, the warranty seemed to be worth the extra outlay. It was a tough call though as I found an option for $1700 but only 6 months warranty.

In Singapore's tropical heat, hybrid batteries fail much faster. My 2009 GS450h had its first hybrid battery replacement in 2014 at around 50,000 km ie age 5 years(previous owner) and again this year 2020 at age 11 at 115000 km.

I've owned it since 2014. It's worth it for me to replace the battery since buying a brand new car with the same hp and features would cost me around 260,000 USD with Singapore added taxes and GST.
