haven't bought yet, but when I do, it's because of emissions. Less pollution is more important than fuel economy to me. People fuss about gasoline being a limited source of fuel. But as long as it remains cheap and accessible no other current source of fuel can beat it.
When solar and wind power can be used to produce hydrogen cleanly, then I'll jump on that bandwagon.

Becasue I like the way the hybrid drives, it's quieter than the RX330, and I wanted to be a little green with my car. No, gas mileage was never a consideration, but regular fuel was.

i think most cars recommend the highest grade of gas because that is what the companies that test the fuel milage use right?...so the best way to achieve those standards is to get a higher grade...i wonder why the states don't have readily available grades higher than 91...sorry cuz i am in taiwan right now and the lowest grade is 92, 2nd is 95, and the highest is 98...heh

Own an environmental products manufacturing company. Felt that I should be true to my profession.
Traded an 02 Yukon with 89K miles that averaged 15 mpg. Am averaging 24 mpg with our 400h. Am considering trading our 02 Acura RL (60K miles) for a hybrid Camry. Love the hybrid technology. I'm now sort of like an-smoker in my zeal for fuel efficiency. Although I am a conservative/libertarian kind of guy, I now think our government should put together a really big tax incentive plan to get cars like my former Yukon off the road and to get everyone into 25 mpg SUVs and 32 mpg sedans. It would make a really big geopolitical difference. Like Tom Friedman says, why maintain a big defense budget to fight in anarchist/ terrorist regions while also paying huge per barrel sums to the oil producing anarchist terrorist funding countries. Makes no sense. Toyota hybrid system makes sense.
Really wish there was a hybrid V-6 Lexus ES sedan. I''ve driven the Camry hybrid and it is a fine car but I'd like just a wee bit more power for those times when it's handy (and safer) to be able to quickly get out of harms way.

Couldn't agree more
great post. I am in the same situation. looking to trade in a car I love but that gets around 14mpg. Really like the hybrid technology and want to try to do my small part to reduce the US's dependence on foreign oil.
Holy grail would be an E85 Hybrid. Could run it on Ethanol and use the hybrid technology. That is what I am really hoping for in the future.

I traded a 2005 Prius in for my RX350. With my Prius, I used to get 44 MPG. Now if the 400h got that kind of mileage, it would be a no brainer but considering the cost delta, I chose to get the RX350.

My RX350 has a couple of ponies more in the HP department but let's face it the HP doesn't really matter since these are not race cars.

I think the RX350 only had 2hp more than the RX400h....as for cost...i believe after the tax credit rebate...u can get an RX400h for a lil more than the RX350...around 1k i believe....plus fuel milage varies on how you drive the hybrid...i get 48-51 mpg on my prius and 27-30 mpg on my rx400h. Just depends on how you drive and also how long ur planning to hold on to the car for...heh
