Picked up a cpo 2010 HS 250h premium with navi and 18" wheels on Dec '13. Love the mid 30's mpg, especially coming from a 1st gen Acura RDX lol.
Anyway, I've set up my phone to connect to bluetooth audio and bluetooth hands free calling. But once it's connected, I can't hear alerts or text messages on my phone or through the car speakers. I was exploring through the settings, and can't find what I'm looking for. I did a search through the forums, and couldn't find anything. Shot in the dark: Is it because its connected through bluetooth audio, and that in order to hear texts/alerts, I can only have it connect via hands free? Thanks in advance.

My 2010 doesn't have navi, so my experience might be a bit different, but my understanding with bluetooth is different cars have varying levels of integration with different phone models. I don't get text alerts either - just calls. I seem to recall the iphone is better integrated than other phones, if that helps - for example I can't really use the car's controls to select music from my phone, just play it, but on iphones I hear it's well integrated. So it might be the phone model you have.
All the audio for the phone is piped through bluetooth once it's connected. (at least from my iPhone)
The car ignores that though if you're on some other audio source (radio, sat, whatever)
If you set the car stereo to bluetooth and are listening to music from the phone, then you can hear the alerts through the car system.
I think you're right. I have an iphone 5s. After playing around with the settings, here's what I came up with:
Bluetooth hands free connected only = Alerts heard through phone
Bluetooth audio connected only = Alerts heard through car speakers ONLY WHEN PLAYING AUDIO VIA BLUETOOTH. So if you connected your phone to bluetooth audio, but are listening to Sat, AM/FM, USB, or Aux, you will NOT hear phone alerts through speakers OR phone
Bluetooth hands free connected + Bluetooth audio connected = Alerts heard through car speakers ONLY WHEN PLAYING AUDIO VIA BLUETOOTH. So if you are listening to Sat, AM/FM, USB, or Aux, and NOT THROUGH BLUETOOTH AUDIO, you will NOT hear phone alerts through speakers OR phone
In iphones with ios 7, you can go to airplay, and switch it from "car_multimedia" or whatever it's on, to "iphone". Alerts come through the phone, and phone calls still go through the handsfree system. Bluetooth audio (if connected) becomes disconnected until you switch back to "car_multimedia". When you restart the car again, it defaults back to "car_multimedia".
