Default New HS owner here question about gas mileage

hello guys, appreciate the replies and advise with this one.

i currently have been testing my mileage on my hs, i bought it pre owned from lexus with 32k miles on it. i reset the mileage stats and started from a full tank of gas 14.5 gallon.

the first tank i was only able to get 360 miles or so leaving 3 gallons in the tank (fill up 11.5 gallon)

my question is . this time i drove it patiently and tried at best to keep every acceleration always within the green saving.

i managed to get about 34mpg on the reading for average. but i cant understand how i will be lucky to get to 400 miles on this tank. to me it just doesnt make sense, because if the average is supposed to be 34 mpg, that would get me 500 miles for each full tank correct?

i was able to get about 230 to the halfway point of my tank reader. but the second half a dribbling 170 so far with my line almost reaching empty.

i just need clarification, because if it says im supposed to get 34 mpg. why am i not getting at least 450 miles to each filled tank ..

any words would be nice. thank you again

i also have a question about the day time running light , changing that to white. but since i realized its connected to the highbeam not sure that an led bulb or a hid kit would keep both working properly . i would really like my day time running light to shine out white instead of the factory amber.

thanks in advance.

Welcome to the club! I typically get about 400 miles to the tank, and put ~11.5 gallons in (trip computer shows ~20 miles left when the light comes on). The designers plan a reserve of about ~2 gallons in the tank, so you hit "empty" after about 12 gallons, not 14. Don't take the car past empty to try to use those last 2 gallons - you might starve the fuel pump when in a turn or on a hill and damage your injectors.

We see various mpg's here - some less than 30, while others can get 60+ - it all depends on your driving habits/environment. Sounds like your experience is pretty typical.

Makes sense ! Thank you for the reply , yea I just added it up , with the remaining 3 that would get me at just under 500 miles to each tank .. I appreciate the feedback . Love my car so far!

Still have a question about the DRL, trying to get them white without having issues with the high beam not working or vice Versa .

You'll get way better than 34 after you learn the car. I think you should be closer to 38 unless you have a pretty heavy foot.

Keep practicing and shoot for the magical 40+.
