Considering the HS - What to look out for
Hi all.
I'm considering a used/CPO HS.
Is there anything to look out for both good or bad?
Thanks!

These cars are really reliable. I bought mine (2010 used, non-CPO, 32,000 miles on it) about 2 years ago and the only thing that has gone wrong is a water pump leak. This is a well known problem for HS250h and Camry Hybrid for several years. Mine was fixed under the power train warranty. I have no other problems.

It is very reliable. I too bought used. Last October I bought a one owner 2011 HS250h Premium with 23,000 miles from a Mitsubishi dealer. Now have 30,000 miles. No problems. It has the same hybrid drivetrain as the Camry hybrid. Similar infotainment as most other Lexus models. A great car. Very comfortable, feels like a German car in steering, ride and handling. Not mushy like most other Lexus models, and I have had a few. It is our commuter car.
All I have done is change the oil, wipers, air and cabin filters and ATF. But I did all those myself as I have always worked on my cars.

Last July I bought a one owner 2011 HS250h with Navi 35,000 miles from a lexus dealer. within 1st week of driving i had rock hit the windshield huge crack - had that replace at no cost because i have insurance pay little extra for windshield. now i noticed another small crack - I been driving for 20+ years never ever had this before, with this car twice with 9 months. I am wondering if anyone else had this issue, only complain i have is this...otherwise its so much fun to drive i dont think i will ever go back to anything else other then hybrids/lexus

Just turned 70,000 miles on my 2010 Premium non-Nav. Been through several recalls, so ensure those were done on anything you buy. My only issue so far has been an O2 sensor gone bad around 55k. The car design itself has a few annoyances (see some early posts on this forum), but overall everyone seems to have a good experience so far. Resale hasn't been good since they discontinued the model, but that works in your favor as a buyer. Good luck!

Nothing major with my 2010 with tech package and Navi. 43k the black on the leather
Shows wear but other than that no issues. It's a better family car than my loaded CT. Tons more room and rides better. It's dead on with the mpg I always get 34-36 always the CT goes from 44-32 with weather and wind changes. Replaced the Toyo tires at 35k and that's it. I said no issues ...but I had the rear LED taillight replaced when one of th bulbs went out(covered by Lexus) . I like it for road trips better than our RXh . Also had a Prius and it's tons smoother than the CT and Prius when driving feels like a V6. If it was me I would look for a loaded HS for the price it's a great deal. I was looking at a no-premium 17 inch wheels..... I was would get a Camry.

Considering this one. It's certified and no accidents except for the windshield having been replaced. What do you guys think?
Btw, Cdn $...

Also, I understand there are a couple of safety recalls (rear suspension bolt and ABS brake actuator) to look into - any other? Thanks for your input!

Traded in my '14 IS and picked up this beauty yesterday!
On my 40 mile (60km) commute home (city driving), A/C on, without trying too hard, got 6.7 L/100 km ( 35 MPG). Compare that to my IS at about 20 MPG on 91 octane. Nice start!

Looking good.
Big change going from a IS to a HS. That was like me, I went from a BMW M3 to the HS. You have to learn a whole new driving technique and style all over again.
Now it time to learn how to hypermile, and bring that mileage up from 35 MPG to near 40 MPG !!!

Agree, getting in the high 30s is doable. When I had the CT prior to the IS, I hit over 50MPGs during spring and fall months, well over the 42MPG city EPA thanks to hitting those speed sweet spots and releasing/gently hitting the throttle in quick succession to run on electric power. So far the HS seems to operate in a similar fashion as the CT.

And don't trust the mpg calculator, that thing is very optimistic, and usually off by 2-3mpg's.
