Default Trunk light upgrade.

Using the ultra thin, flex LED I got here:

http://www.oznium.com/

I made the light in the trunk a least doubled or tripled over than dingy 914 factory bulb with about a 5 minute mod. The trunk light assembly was so easy to remove. Just pull down on the drivers side of the assembly and it pops right out. You can unplug the light assy. if you want, but the upgrade was so easy I just let it hang and did it there. The new "bulb" just fits right in, but you might have to shave a 1/16" from the LED if yours doesn't. Just use caution.

The first pic shows the "bulb", the different hookups included to fit all different types of cars and the factory trunk light assembly. The hard part was stuffing all the excess wires back in. The second pic show the result which is kinda hard to see, but it is real noticeable.

This looks like it is worth doing. I had to unload some stuff from my trunk last night and could hardly see what I was doing. I plan to give it a try. They photo is great - since it shows the part numbers and all. Thanks for taking the trouble to show us what you used and how it worked.

The car is simply technically amazing in so many ways - years ahead of its time in my opinion - but there are a few odd things like the amount of light in the trunk that were not thought through as well (and storage for junk stuff that you carry in the car) that are mildly annoying.

You'll like the amount of light that the new "bulb" makes. Well worth it.

Keep in mind the LED is just about the same exact size as the opening in the factory trunk light assembly. You may or may not have to trim maybe a 1/16th or a 1/32" of the side of the LED or even the inside of the trunk light. It's probably easiest just to unplug the thing and take into your work bench rather then bending over your trunk. You'll see what I mean when you have the parts in your hands.

Default Light upgrade

Thanks for the information. I'm sure that almost all HS owners would prefer to have better lights - both interior dome as well as trunk. I had this in mind for quite some time but was never sure of the compatibility. I had this site bookmarked - http://www.superbrightleds.com/vehic...amps/33/607/50 - will this work?

When I click on your link it takes me to a 3157 bulb. That's way too big. It will never fit in that little space in the trunk light assembly. Is this the one you mean?

Anyway, that site is a good one. I've bought there before. But the trunk is a 194, so you have to click on that link on the right side of the page.
